Desolation Row – My Chemical Romance

25 02 2009

My Chemical Romance covered Bob Dylan’s Desolation Row for the Watchmen movie. If you want to know more about the movie you should click on the link and watch the character videos.

The link from the image goes to the US store. If you are like me and don’t live in the US all you need to do is search My Chemical Romance in the iTunes Store and it should be the first music video in the list. The song is also available as a single album download and the soundtrack can be pre-ordered. Check it out for yourself and let the world know what you think.

He’s just not that into you (2009) Released in Theatres Feb (NZ)

15 02 2009

Usually Valentines day passes and I don’t even know it. This year was different. A girl friend of mine asked if I would be her valentine and so we spent the afternoon together – had lunch, coffee and then watched a movie.

I usually refuse to watch a chick flick on the bog screen but since it was Valentines Day and my friend wanted to watch it (and Justin Long is in it) I gave in. Ken Kwapis (Director) left me happily surprised. He also directed  License to Wed (2007) and episodes from T.V shows that include Malcolm in the Middle, Freaks and Geeks and the Office. “He’s just not that into you” is now my favourite chick flick of all time. It draws you so deep into the characters lives that you feel their pain, their despair, and their happiness.

I have no time to write anything else (exam tomorrow). Just watch it!

Director: Ken Kwapis

Main cast: Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Connelly, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper

Synopsis: In Baltimore, a group of unrelated people deal with love and the challenges of reading or misreading human behavior. Jennifer Connelly plays a woman stuck in a tired marriage with a cheating husband (Bradley Cooper). Another man pines after a woman who is having an affair with a married man.
A young woman (Ginnifer Goodwin) is obsessed with a man and tries to set up accidental meetings with him only to run across his friend (Justin Long), who takes her on as a “My Fair Lady” experiment. Drew Barrymore plays a woman perpetually confused by dating, now more than ever in a culture that is more obsessed with technology than actual human contact.

The Offspring – Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?

10 02 2009

This is my new favourite song. I’ve been a fan of The Offspring for the past 11 years, but this song has taken them to another level on my “awesome” scale. Even for people who are not huge fans of the band may find they enjoy this song. The video is fantastic too. Directed by Lex Halaby. He also directed Snakes on a Plane (2006), which I haven’t seen yet. The video is the best I have seen lately. I love the close up on words and phrases of the ripped off pieces of paper stuck on the wall. I can relate to the girl who pretends like everything is ok while her friends/people are around but really she’s a mess inside.

This song is on the “Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace” album, which was released in the U.S. June 2008 via Columbia Records.

Twilight (2008) Released in Theatres 26 Dec (NZ)

8 02 2009

Director Catherine Hardwicke

Staring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Nikki Reed, Cam Gigandet

TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human.”

I looked forward to watching this movie but didn’t end up going to the theatres till it had been showing for a few weeks. I was not disappointed. Maybe it’s because of my love for cinema, or my interest in Vampire stories, I don’t know, but I am tempted to buy the books and plan on buying the movie on DVD when it is released. I have been fascinated by vampire stories since I was young, but this vampire is not like any other I have seen or read. Stephenie Meyer wrote the novels and I’m longing to know how they adapted the novel to the screen play. Catherine Hardwicke has done a fantastic job with Twilight. Her other works I enjoy watched include Thirteen (2003) (writer and director), and Vanilla Sky (2001) (production designer).

My final opinion: this movie is a must see. Especially if you like drama, romance, action and vampire stories.
