Update bout ME!

14 04 2009

This doesn’t happen very often but I am going to share about me.

So first thing, I am currently majoring in Computer Science and Film and Media Studies, but that is about to change. I’m not enjoying Film and Media and find it’s just getting in the way of my Comp Sci major so I’m dropping it and I’m going to see if I can take level 200 COSC papers next semester (this is my first year majoring in Comp Sci but I did a paper during Summer School which meant I could do 2nd year papers this year as well as 1st year papers). If I can do the 2 level 200 papers next semester it means I only have to do one level 2 paper next year. I may not be able to but it’s worth a try.

All year I’ve been thinking of doing an exchange. Now I’m looking into going to Sweden. Again, I’m not sure if this is possible but I’ve been told it’s one of the best places to go when it comes to computers. I’m considering doing some IT papers to make me a bit more rounded in the Comp Sci department, but this is just a thought. I want to do Postgraduate studies, either here at Otago or overseas. Lately my head has been filled with all sort of “good and exciting” ideas. Whether not they are possible is another thing all together.

I’m finding it all very overwhelming though. It’s all very exciting but very scary at the same time! I guess life isn’t meant to be easy all the time (or possibly at all).

Tomorrow I’m going with Mel to see how much it will cost for us to get Tattoos. This is exciting because I finally know what I want to get. It’s a bit on the geeky side which makes me even more excited! I’m a bit of a wimp though so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle the pain…

My brother’s girlfriend is pregnant which is exciting. I know everyone up home will be excited about the news too. I hope it’s a boy. Soon all of my siblings will have children and I’ll still be studying. Lol! It’s all good though, one day I too will have kids. I want to finish studying before I get married and become a baby factory.

Shirts For A Cure

30 11 2008

I was looking at My Chemical Romance’s website and in their Charity page it has a link to Shirts For A Cure. I thought it was such a cool site that I should share it with others.

If you’re into giving to the needy, punk bands and t-shirts I suggest you check it out =)

Here is the blurb from the homepage of the site which explains why this site exists… (http://www.merchnow.com/shirtsforacure/)

The Syrentha J. Savio Endowment (SSE) was established by punk-rock photographer Mark Beemer in 2002. SSE provides financial assistance to underprivileged women who cannot afford expensive breast cancer medicine and therapy. The Shirts For A Cure Project (SFAC) was launched by SSE to give voice to the social concerns of punk bands and their many fans as well as to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention.

When a band donates a shirt design to SFAC, the design becomes exclusive to SSE. We sell the shirt and use the proceeds to help women fighting breast cancer. If you would like to support our cause please take a moment to peruse the more then 150 shirts we offer. All shirts are printed on 100% pre-shrunk cotton unless otherwise stated. For a donation of $12 (plus shipping and handling) you will be helping someone who is in need as well as receiving an exclusive shirt from your favorite band.

There are over 150 bands in the bands list and so over 150 shirts.

MCR have 6 t-shirts. These are two I like.

My Love…

5 10 2008

In the previous post I stated that I want to own NCIS Season 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Season 6 started playing in America about 2weeks ago. Not sure when that season will be available.

My interest in crime scene TV shows started with CSI, the original. I’ve seen the first two seasons so many times. Then last year it moved to CSI: Miami. Before then I was never much of a fan because of Lieutenant Horatio Caine (David Caruso) one liners. NCIS became the ultimate earlier this year and has stayed it.

I’ve watched a range of NCIS episodes from different seasons over the past few months, and then I thought I’d have a look at a CSI: Miami episode. I knew that Horatio got shot in the last episode of season 6 (Episode 21) and was dying to find out what happend. So, I watched the first episode of Season 7. My first thought was, what sort of technology are they using in Miami-Dade, Florida police department’s Crime Scene Investigations unit? Have you seen it lately? They have touch screens, and not normal touch screen monitors. They are as clear as glass and as wide and tall as the room. A room is dedicated to this “computer”. Where do you buy such a thing? And what company develops something like this?

It’s kinda funny. Usually something like this would make me want to watch the program more but it has put me off. There are large sections of the show which are dedicated to the characters doing tests on such things as DNA, bullets, fibers etc with music overlayed. It seems very unnecessary and flashy.

The main reason I like watching CSI: Miami was Tim Speedle (Rory Cochrane). He died at the start of Season 2 and Ryan Wolfe (Jonathan Togo) came along. At first I wasn’t impressed but eventually I found him to be good enough to take Speedles place. My sister thought it was weird that I liked Speedle because he had facial hair. I guess it is weird for a teenage girls eye-candle to be the rough looking one. It’s usally the “pretty boy” that catches their attention.

When I started watching NCIS I watched it with a Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) fan. Personally, Michael Weatherly doesn’t “do it for me”. Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) is another story tho. It is strange that now I’m older it’s the geek/”loner” that I swoon over. Tim isn’t the only reason I continue to watch and follow NCIS. The other reasons are Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard (David McCallum), and Anthony DiNozzo, who hold my attention and continue to make me laugh long after the episode has finished playing. At this point my favourite episode is Twisted Sister. It’s about McGees little sister, Sarah McGee (Troian Avery Bellisario), and how she is the main suspect in a murder case. It’s a sweet episode the way Tim does everything he can to protect his sister.

My new love is NCIS. I’m pretty sure this love will last the distance but you can never know when it comes to these sort of things.

Like I said previously, Season 6 is playing in America. I can watch them online but it’s not the same. Season 5 is currently showing here in New Zealand on Sunday nights but I’ve got lifegroup and have already seen all of season 5. It’s great when people ask “I wonder what’s going to happen on NCIS?” I can answer, “I already know”. I can tease them and it feels great =)

When I watched the last Season 5 episode (Season 5, Episode 19: Judgment Day (2)) I was shocked and couldn’t believe that they were splitting up the team. The show wouldn’t be the same. It was like the end of Season 3 when Gibbs left. It turned out to be exactly like the end of Season 3 because at the start of season 4 Gibbs came back. At the end of Season 5 I was left with the feeling that the team was split up because of Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly) death. The real reason is discovered in the first episode of Season 6 (Last Man Standing). By the start of the second Episode (Agent Afloat) both Timothy McGee (YAY!) and Ziva David have returned to the team but Tony is still afloat (NOT YAY!). By the end of this episode the team is back together (GROUP YAY!). The new NCIS Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) is a hard one to read. Him and Gibbs don’t exactly see eye-to-eye but the reason isn’t really known. It could have to do with Jenny’s death and him taking her place. Gibbs and Jenny did have a history and there was always tension between them.

I watched the first episode from Season 2 (See No Evil). Kate was still alive and McGee is an awkward geek who seems lost. It brought back memories. I remember watching the episode (Season 2, Episode 23: Twilight) with my mum, it’s the one that ends the season with Kate being shot in the head by Ari, Ziva’s brother.

NCIS is funnier than any of the other crime shows. It wins, hands down. But if I find something better, you’ll be the first to know.

For now, NCIS is my new love. Next episode to show in America is Season 6, Episode 3: Capitol Offense - showing on the 7 October, 2008. “When Senator Patrick Kiley seeks Gibbs’ help to solve the murder of a young Naval officer, the NCIS team find themselves pushed inside the world of Washington politics.” Season 5 is my favourite at the moment but Season 6 is looking good (the link goes to tv.com site [as of the 5th October 2008 9:07 NZ Time] it has titles of the first 5 episodes and when they are to be aired in America [my guess]).

Did I mention – I love NCIS =)

It’s morning now…time for Church. It’s great being me! I’ll tag and catagorise this when I’m back home…there will be many tags to add…

Edit 05/10/08 14.05: For those of you who live in countries like the one I live in the videos can be found on YouTube if you look hard enough. I know how much it sucks to have to wait to watch an episode or two (or a whole season). I feel your pain!

Note: If you were looking for information about NCIS (or CSI) and did not find it in this post or have a question, please leave me a comment and I’ll get back to you.

My Current Wishlist…

5 10 2008

I was told not too long ago that I am materialistic…I think they are wrong but can see why they would think that. Whenever I talk about the things that I want to buy I get very excited. Mainly because it would be awesome to own such things but also because I am a geek. The things I want range from CD’s and DVD’s to cables and computers. Here’s a short list…

MacBook, iMac, External Harddrive, Apple DVI to Video Adaptor, Wireless G Modem and Router, Hawk Nelson’s latest 2 CD’s, 3 Serenity Comic Books, Serenity: Left Behind Comic, NCIS Season 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, and CSI Miami Season 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

So because I want a credit card to buy things online I’m materialistic.

I decided to figure out what materialisitic is. I looked it up on dictionary.com

-noun
1. a person who is markedly more concerned with material things than with spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values.
2. an adherent of philosophical materialism.

–adjective
3. concerned with material things; materialistic.
4. of or pertaining to philosophical materialism or its adherents.

Markedly more concerned with material things than with spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values“?

Am I more concerned with material things than spiritual? I don’t think I am. What do people expect me to do? Only buy “Christian” books and CDs. I’m not going to surround myself in my “Christian-Box” any longer and shut out the world. I’m not backslidding, and I’m not saying that Christian music and movies are bad. I like Christian music and some movies. I realise that I’m a better witness to people if I don’t throw away who I am. In the past 3 years I’ve become a Chrsitian Robot. Intent on living up to a unachievable standed I left behind all my interests and with that I left behind my non-Christian friends. I’ve learnt that there should never be a “us” and “them”. When we put things into categories like this it becomes a “we’re right” and “they’re wrong”. Things aren’t that simple. How are we meant to see people saved in if we stay in our cozy little shells and reject the people in this world?

Open Learning Class 04/08/08

5 08 2008

So we had an open learning class yesterday with Pastor Andrew. He put across the question, “If you were about to die and you had 5mins to preach your last sermon to a bunch of Christians, what would you say?”

To be honest i was stumped…what would i say? “Love God, Obey his teaching and love people”??

After class i was sitting and pondering over the question and a short answer came to my head that made me break out into laughter… “get a mac”…

With my last breath would I tell people that they should get a mac?? well if i had 5mins I’m sure that’s plenty of time to slip it in there somewhere…altho it wouldn’t be the main guts of my message – that would be crazy.

I think the purpose of this exercise is to get us thinking about what we would change if we could go back…our regrets etc.

What would i change?

  • I wouldn’t want to be so lazy, i think.
  • Look after the environment better
  • Spend more time with family
  • Spend less time working and more time with friends
  • Spend more time studying and learning
  • Read Bible and pray more
…I’m sure there is more but I can’t think of it right now…

During this class Andrew and I spent some time discussing the Dark Knight. He didn’t like it, I did. So, it turned out to be a really interesting discussion. Tabitha made a comment at the end of class that we should read more books…this annoyed me! I read books…just not fantasy books. I’d rather watch a movie than read a book about the movie. Everything is right in front of you and you can see the skill and talent used to put it all together. I’m always left in awe at the special effects, camera techniques and other magical things.

As each day goes passed I amaze myself at how geeky I really am…it’s always been hidden inside… I have a profile on facebook, myspace, bebo, friendster, hisholyspace, hi5, oldfriends, purevolume, youtube, godtube, amplifier, eventful, blogspot, multiply, del.icio.us, digg it, flickr, photobucket, shutterfly, 431 club (NZ cricket), pogo, neopets, DSE, thinkgeek, amazon, trademe, driverguide, font trader…and more…hmm…maybe i should stop joining stuff…
