Shattered Illusion

Rain tapped on the roof top as we lay curled up in bed. Calm and relaxed. We had no agenda, no plans for the day. Our world consisted of the four walls that surrounded us, the bed that we lay upon, the blankets that enclosed us, and each other. The world could end around us at any moment and we’d be none the wiser.

Our illusion was interrupted by the ringing of a phone. “I have bad news”, were the words I heard from the other end. My world was torn apart as the caller spoke of the events that had unfolded the previous night. It felt like I was stuck in a nightmare. A life had ended with a rope.
